sloths!

Hey!
So right now I am working on my term project that is about the conservation status of sloths. Sloths are awesome! They are insanely cute when they are young, and very funny creatures. They are known for their lack of actual movement and their long sleep habits. They are from the amazonian rainforest. Only one of the species is classified as endangered, the maned sloth (three toes). How many toes does the one in the picture have?
One "sloth" is the sloth bear. But that is not a true sloth. It is actually a bear with sloth-like nails so that is how they got their name.
I wanted to do sloths for my assignment because there is little research on them and I was trying to get away from the "hot topics" in conservation biology.
I hope you enjoyed my little tid-bit on sloths! Have a wonderful day!

Hello!

Hmm... adding this photo didn't work out the way I wanted to. Oh well. I will try harder next time. I wanted the photo to be at the top... maybe it will be when I post this post.

Well onto what I want to talk about. Well I don't exactly know what I want to talk about.

Hmm....

Today in class we talked about the relationship between species richness and area available for species to live in and climate change. Species should be migrating to where the conditions and climate are suitable for them to live, right? So what is stopping them? Well there are the many changes that humans have been doing to the landscape. Like when the ice from the ice age was receding species (the example we looked at was spruce trees) moved with the ice. It only took just over 20,000 years to do that. But now it will be hard for species of any sort to migrate because they have to move around agriculture lands, urban areas, just things that wouldn't have been there thousands of years ago. I just thought was very interesting. And I thought I would share that with you.

Also this week has been insanely busy for me. I am having a hard time finding time to eat. But I guess I shouldn't be doing things like posting a blog when I have things to do. But I would insane if I didn't do my time waster things. Oh well. But I am excited for the weekend! Whistler is going to be epic! I can't wait to see my best friend! I miss her. Last summer we saw each other almost everyday. It was awesome! Ooh.... that reminds me, I hope she wants to play on our football (American football) team again this summer. I must recommend this to you (the reader) join an URBAN REC sport. They are an amazing intramural league company providing sports leagues to the Vancouver region and I know they are hoping to expand that into the lower mainland, I think. So join a sport, make some friends, and have a good time!

I gave up alcohol for lent. I am not religious in any sense, I just try it every year to better myself in some shape or form. I also try to give up something that I think is not good for me. Like last year I gave up swearing and McDonald's. I didn't do very well at the swearing part, but at least I was realizing when I was swearing, so now I don't swear as much. And the McDonald's thing was wreck when I decided to go to Whistler. This year I am giving up alcohol. And I will be breaking that this weekend for the Girls Whistler trip, and UBC REC Spring formal. Those are two events I can't miss out on. But I will be missing out on St. Patrick's Day and the three UBC Ski and board Club events I wanted to go to, and the end of Storm the Wall celebration. BOOOOOO! Well, maybe I will better myself. I am mostly doing it to see if I lose weight and save some money. Hopefully I will be able to do it.

Well I better wrap this up! I will talk about more random things, when random things happen.

Have a great day! And best wishes!
